Langkawi Island – Fishing, Accommodation and Spa Treatment

I had the opportunity to visit Langkawi last week, the first time in 12 years. Langkawi now is still Langkawi I visited back then except for more budget hotels and retail outlets are available now.

The island is not connected to the mainland by bridge but you can get to Langkawi via airways (from Kuala Lumpur – Air Asia, Malaysia Airlines and from Subang – Fire Fly) and road (up to Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis where you have to board a ferry). I took a train from KL Sentral to Alor Setar (it took me 11 hours to reach Alor Setar from KL by train) and from there I took a taxi to Kuala Kedah (another 20 mins journey) and boarded a ferry to Langkawi (approximately another 1 hr and 45 mins; I have time to kill :P).

The jetty in Langkawi is located in Kuah and it is a five minute drive to and from Kuah Town where there are many budget hotels (to name a couple, JS Motel and Sunderland Motel) available for backpackers and those who seek for cheap accommodation. Budget hotels here offer cheap and clean accommodation, with free wifi and satellite TV. You can charter a car or motorbike to get around the island, or you can hire a taxi or local tourist guide.

I did not really explore the island as my visit was more business related but for those who are interested in fishing, you can check out Alu Alu Sportfishing and Boat Charter located in Kuah Town. Alu Alu provides fishing trip and also sells fishing gadgets.

For ladies (in some cases, men), check out Ayer Spa for authentic Malay massage and spa treatment. Check out their website for more information.

The most visited place in Langkawi is Pantai Chenang and with the recent announcement by the Government, Pantai Chenang will be undergoing a transformation into a more structured development with beautiful waterfront, pedestrian walkway, new commercial area as well as boutique resorts to offer.

A great island with 99 magical islands surrounding it, Langkawi is a safe and great destination for those who seek tranquility as well as adventure. I will visit Langkawi in near future and will post something specific about the place, activities and other attractions.
